We started off as childhood friends. We grew into inseparable lovers. Even when others eyed her at my side, I would never let her go. She was mine for keeps. After all she was all I needed.
A faithful lover I was. I nurtured her and became her shield. I hardly let others have a peek at her. I didn’t share her; I boasted of her. Soon everyone envied me of my possession. And perhaps dreamt of my blossoming affair.
But alas! I have been betrayed. She’s left me for another. I asked what my offence was. She smiled and retorted, ‘I am light and cannot be hidden. I am not Eden’s fruit that’s forbidden’.
So here I am, rejected and wretched. Emptied inside and out. My beloved has played the whore. I’m left but for just two options. To count my losses or…..to languish in my stupidity.
