At Crater Library & Publishers, all resources are considered archive worthy. This is to encourage the preservation of an intellectual and cultural history which has faced all kinds of adversaries  such as poor documentation related to limited writing skills, wars, slave trade, colonialism, religion, emigration and worse, lack of interest by Africans, 

However, Crater’s archive is mainly a repository of unique, rare, and specialised research collections of manuscripts, archives, books, and published material by Africans and Blacks, for Africans and Blacks and about Africans and Blacks. 

Crater Library’s resources are considered historical in nature. As a result,our collections reflect our society and our experience. Users might find some resources with ethnic, tribal, gender, sexual, religious, racial, and other language and imagery that are considered offensive by today’s standards. Some of these resources such as images, documents and videos are retained in their original form, revised form and/or readapted form to fully represent and capture our  humanity. 

Crater Library & Publishers archive acknowledges and works to give/uplift  voices of Africans and Blacks who have not been prioritised through historical records for preservation and access. 

Permission 

Crater Library & Publisher’s archival collection grants readers and researchers permission to publish, display, or broadcast materials from its holdings for which it holds ownership and/or other rights. However, permission must be requested for publications in any format including print, electronic, web, film, or others. Unless explicitly transferred to Crater Library, copyright to material may be held by the  creator(s), their heir(s), or designee(s) and it is the responsibility of researchers to request copyright permission from those individuals or entities separately.

Collection and Acquisition

Crater Library & Publisher Archives will accept resources classified as rare and unique. It could be in the print or digital format, and in the forms of: books,  papers, photographs, negatives, slides, VH or CD films, cassettes or CDs, digital images, documents, videos, and audio recordings.

Acceptance of resources into the repository means that materials will be digitised and be made accessible online.

Restrictions on Access

Crater Library & Publishers recognises the right of its Patrons to impose reasonable restrictions on materials donated or sponsored by them. However, such restrictions on access must be for a fixed term of not more than 3 years. Any restriction longer than 3 years goes contrary to Crater Library’s vision and mission, and shall be rescinded or taken off Crater’s collection.

Review and Evaluation of Policy

Crater Library & Publishers  will review this policy at least every five years and  as necessary to recognize the ongoing evolution of the repository, Crater’s community and society at large.
